How to Relieve Constipation through Natural Supplements
Constipation can be quite painful and for those who are suffering from chronic constipation, it can affect a person’s life for a long period of time.
When people have constipation (or irregularity), this is when the digestive system in a person gives them a feeling of pain due to the difficulties of caused by hard feces. This happens when the body’s colon absorbs so much water from the food that when it’s excreted during a bowel movement, it’s to hard to push out because it’s dry and hard. The feeling of constipation that some people can suffer from bowel obstruction and even gas can be difficult to pass from the body.
As for the causes of constipation, it could be a number of things such as diet, hormones, and medications. It depends on the person’s case but it can be prevented through changes in dietary and exercise habits but also using natural supplements.
When a person is suffering from constipation which can include bloating, distension, abdominal pain or a sense that they haven’t finished with their bowel movement, one can point towards their eating habits. Does the person drink up to eight glasses of water a day, does the person eat enough fiber such as fruits or vegetables?
Natural Supplements for Constipation
Fortunately people can prevent constipation from eating more fiber, drinking more water but also taking natural supplements. Supplements include:
Flax - Known as flaxseed, people can purchase flaxseed oil and if people add 1-3 tablespoons to their foods plus drink up to eight glasses of water, the food is able to move through the intestines easier.
Psyllium - Psyllium husk is one of the more popular ways for people to get their fiber for normalizing bowel movements and prevention of constipation. Psyllium contains fiber known as mucilage which absorbs a lot of fluid in the stomac and when the seeds start to swell, they bulk the stool and thus makes people want to have a bowel movement and helps remove the crud out of the intestine.
Fenugreek - Fenugreek also contains mucilage but unlike psyllium, people should only take up to two teaspoons or else they can have stomach aches. Make sure you drink a lot of water if you go the fenugreek route.
These are just a few examples of natural supplements that are proven effective against constipation. Again, if you want to prevent constipation, it’s good to drink a lot of liquids like water and drink up to 8 glasses a day but also eat a lot of vegetables and fruits that contain a lot of fiber.
