Using Herbs for Colon Cleansing
Many suffer problems such as constipation, diarrhea, stomach pains and a variety of other digestive problems. A lot of these symptoms can be attributed to the colon which is known for absorbing water and salt in the foods we eat but excreting the waste during our bowel movements.
But part of the problem that many people have is with eating foods that are refined or processed, foods that have chemicals, etc. The chances are high that when these foods are broken down, the fibers that are not broken down can either be excreted or stay in our bodies until they become toxic and poisonous.
Therefore many people have looked towards colon cleansing as a way to clear out these toxins from the body. This involves lifestyle changes and reduction of foods and beverages that can cause the toxins, increase consumption of water and eating foods with more fiber.
Among the popular herbs used for colon cleansing are:
Psyllium – The husk from a psyllium plan is known for its colon cleansing potential. This is a source for water-soluble fiber and when mixed with water during the digestive process, the husks around the seed will expand larger and larger. It will produce a gooey, gelatin-like substance that will bulk up the stool and also soften it. Most importantly, the ability to move things through the intestines and the fecal matter that is stuck, makes it unstuck and expelled through waste. There are misconceptions that psyllium is a laxative but it is not. Psyllium can be purchased as tablets or in powder form to mix with water or juice. It is not tasty but mixing it with juice can help mask the taste. But you can also find tablets that are flavored.
Licorice Root – Another popular form of herb used for colon cleansing, licorice root known for regulating bowel movements. It also helps flush the toxins out of the system and can be purchased as a capsule or an herb. It is a natural detoxifier and works as a mild laxative.
Flax Seeds – Flax seeds are used in a variety of ailment treatments. It works similarly to fiber in lubricating the walls so the waste can be easily passed through during a bowel movement. Flax seed is known to help those with breast cancer, high cholesterol, constipation, irritable bowel syndrom, Chrohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Other herbs that have been used for colon cleansing are cayenne pepper, aloe leaf, ginger, garlic and dandelion root. Not only do these help cleanse the colon but also the liver. Of course, there are possibly many herbs that people claim to help clean the colon but the ones that I have mentioned are among the popular herbs that help in the colon cleansing process.
Of course, if planning to take these safe herbs for colon cleansing, just bare in mind that it also includes a lifestyle adjustment of eating better foods, foods with fiber, drinking a lot of water and exercise. This is needed if you fully want the best results in ridding the waste and limiting the waste intake in your body.
